Jordan Morris headlines MLS homegrown team

On the eve of the 2016 MLS All-Star game between the best of MLS and Arsenal FC, a select group of Homegrown Players will take on the Mexico U-20 global team at Avaya Stadium in San Jose. Only MLS Homegrown Players aged 23 or under were available for selection. LD will explain what each player brings to the squad, and may shed a bit of light on how he plans to defeat Mexico’s U-20s, a talented team which wears the crown of reigning CONCACAF U-20 champions.

Morris and Kovar are the first Sounders players to be named to the roster since Sean Okoli, who was selected in the inaugural Homegrown Game in 2014. Fan interested in purchasing tickets can visit here.

Signed to a Homegrown contract on December 17, 2015 after a standout collegiate career at Northwestern University, Calistri made his professional debut when he entered in the 81st minute of the Fire’s season opener against New York City FC on March 6.

This year’s MLS Homegrown match will only contain representatives from 11 out of the 20 teams in Major League Soccer, excluding clubs such as NYCFC, New England Revolution, and the Vancouver Whitecaps. A native of Mercer Island who won a national title at Stanford last fall before joining the Sounders, Morris has also earned nine caps with the USMNT. “I got to meet a lot of the up-and-coming guys in the league”. “It will be nice to get some more minutes under my belt”.

“He’s obviously somebody I looked up to as a kid”, Morris said in the video above. “I can’t wait to go out and represent myself, my family, the Club and and most importantly the City of Orlando, especially after the tragedies that happened over the past couple of months”, said Turner. The 20-year-old has one goal in six games with Orlando City B (OCB), the Club’s United Soccer League (USL) affiliate.

Homegrown players can be signed without going through the MLS SuperDraft if they have been a member of a club’s youth academy for at least one year and have met necessary requirements.
