Jordy Nelson returns to help Packers beat Jaguars

Devante Adams pulled off a sensational catch for a 29-yard touchdown pass from Aaron Rodgers that gave the Green Bay Packers the lead over the Jacksonville Jaguars, one they wouldn’t relinquish in their 27-23 win.

Jaguars receiver Allen Robinson finished with six catches for 72 yards, but there were nine more passes thrown his way. It would’ve been an extraordinary grab and it’s a play that Robinson has made before.

The Jaguars stymied Rodgers for much of the first half, forcing Green Bay into three consecutive three-and-outs at one point before the former NFL MVP finally found his rhythm.

Aaron Rodgers #12 of the Green Bay Packers warms up during a game against the Jacksonville Jaguars at EverBank Field on September 11, 2016 in Jacksonville. Linebacker Telvin Smith gave an impassioned speech to the players in the locker room before coach Gus Bradley addressed the team, and cornerback Jalen Ramsey said this after the game: “I’m not used to losing and I won’t get used to losing”. He ran for a score in the first half, and threw touchdown passes to Jordy Nelson and Devonte Adams.

The Jaguars held the Packers to two touchdowns on four red zone trips – that had been a huge problem area the past three seasons – and held Rodgers to 199 yards passing. Bortles threw incomplete in the middle of the field on third down, then threw a quick screen to Hurns on the right side of the field. After all, they entered the season having lost 36 of their last 50 games and losing the majority of those by double digits. The first was an attempt to Randall Cobb in the end zone on the opening drive and the second was the first play of the fourth quarter on another end zone try to Cobb. Bortles, who led the National Football League with 18 interceptions last season, had one on the team’s first drive on a pass that was bobbled by receiver Marqise Lee.

Despite the unexpected situation, the Jaguars were functional on offense, totaling 348 yards of offense to Green Bay’s 294. Ivory was taken by ambulance from the team hotel to a local hospital early Sunday. “We put a lot of effort in going into this week and it’s not the last week, but this is one that everybody put a lot of effort into”. In comparison, the Packers had just five penalties for 24 yards.
