McGregor called his shot well before his featherweight title bout with Jose Aldo at UFC 194, vowing he wouldn’t need a full round to stop a champion who hadn’t lost in 10 years. Aldo’s UFC record now stands at 7-1 after Saturday’s loss.
As soon as the bell rang, Aldo and McGregor met in the middle of the cage.
This is what Aldo actually said: “He threw a jab on my chest, I was already expecting that”.
Frankie Edgar, who was promised a title shot after engaging in a battle against Urijah Faber in UFC Fight Night in Manila, is the fighter that would – most likely – be the next challenge for McGregor.
McGregor had to lose weight to reach the 145lb cut-off for the featherweight title, and looked gaunt at the weigh-in before putting on weight for the fight the next day.
“I’ll tell you one thing that won’t be happening”, McGregor said on relinquishing his title. “If I go up to that lightweight division there’s no way in hell that I’m vacating my belt”.
Jose Aldo fight in UFC 194 is arguably one of the biggest in terms of hype, viewership, and profit.
On his UFC future:”We spoke (with Dana White) right after”.
When Bones was attempting to rehabilitate from his wild ways, and fight back to the UFC, the Dubliner reached out with words of support. “Now I’m waiting for the rematch there, and if it’s God’s will on the next one, I’ll be much more trained, and I will reclaim what is mine”.
“He’s never gonna wait until July”, Kavanagh said during the MMA Hour on MMAFighting.com.
“You don’t want to see the only champion in the company’s history going out like that, so I had a little moment where I felt sorry for José”, he later added. “‘He is ready to unload that right hand and I feel that could be a downfall for him”.
