Jose Mourinho was sacked as Chelsea manager on Thursday, with the side sitting perilously close to the Premier League relegation zone in 16th.

The 69-year-old is now tasked with reviving the club’s season.

Chelsea’s billionaire Russian owner Roman Abramovich turned to Hiddink in February 2009 after he had fired Luiz Felipe Scolari and the man renowned for his tactical nous and inspirational man-management revitalised their flailing fortunes in his short spell in charge.

“I first want to fully understand these reasons before making my decision”.

“I am excited to return to Stamford Bridge”.

“Depending on the outcome, I will determine whether I remain longer in London to discuss the matter further”. Hiddink will attend the match although assistant coaches Steve Holland and Eddie Newton will take charge.

Blind then failed to qualify the Dutch for the 24-team European Championships, but Hiddink was the one fingers of blame were pointed at.

Mourinho was sacked for the second time as Chelsea manager on Thursday, seven months after leading them to the title.

After the apparent upheaval behind the scenes – Chelsea’s technical director Michael Emenalo cited “palpable discord” between the manager and the players – under the Portuguese, Meulensteen believes Hiddink will calm troubled waters.

He quickly won the hearts of the club’s fans who pleaded with Abramovich to sign him on a permanent deal during their final home league game that season, a 2-0 win over Blackburn Rovers.

“I love Jose and he’s done a fantastic job for Chelsea”, Wilkins said. It’d be a pretty bad indictment on the players if they actually go and perform a lot better than they have done recently just because Jose has lost his job. “The only player that’s performed on any sort of consistent level is Willian”. The problems were many. But without the ball they’ve not done half as much as they should have done.

“When things aren’t going well, you work even harder and look for a reaction”.

“He is immensely proud of his eight trophies at Chelsea, and thanks the fans for all their support throughout his two spells at the club”, it said. “Sad sad day”, posted Terry.
