Jose Mourinho confident of joining Manchester United
Van Gaal is under contract through the 2016-17 season, but reports out of England have Ed Woodward, United’s executive vice-chairman, under presser to appoint a manager who can make Man U a title contender.

With United in fifth and six points behind neighbours Manchester City in the chase for Champions League qualification, and with many still questioning the Dutchman’s style of play, Ferdinand has joined the critics.
Should Mourinho end up at United next season he would go head-to-head with his old adversary Pep Guardiola, the pair having faced off during their spells at Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively.
Speaking to GQ, Jose Mourinho revealed that “I will be back soon”, but added that “at this moment I don’t have a job, and I don’t know where football will take me, because in football you never know”.
Since becoming a free agent, Mourinho has constantly been linked with the United role, despite the fact Louis van Gaal still has another year to run on his current deal. “The problem they’ve got now is who they choose”.
The BBC has learned ex-Chelsea boss Mourinho, 53, could replace Louis van Gaal as United manager this summer.
Van Gaal has also not advanced his cause with his increasingly fractious and freaky dealings with the media, and there is little sense that his behaviour is any more attractive than Mourinho’s in the final weeks of his Chelsea reign.
Mourinho has landed a three-year deal which would see him arrive at Old Trafford in the summer.

The arrival of Mourinho would place a question mark over the future of United assistant manager Ryan Giggs, who may well look to start his full managerial career elsewhere. “The manager can rotate things when he needs to and give people a rest – everyone wants to play and hopefully we can go on a good run”. I know we were under pressure for the last 10 or 15 minutes but to lose a goal like that is disappointing and that’s the overall feeling.
