Jose Mourinho discusses January plans

After 12 matches, the defending Premier League champions sit in 16th place in the standings, which is 15 points behind league-leaders Manchester City and Arsenal.

Not signing any real reinforcements or immediate-impact players is a mistake the Blues shouldn’t make in two consecutive transfer windows. I want the responsibility in my hands and the players’ hands.

Despite reiterating his desire to keep faith in the same team that won the Premier League trophy in May, Mourinho admitted he would be unable to turn down a big-name signing in January should Chelsea’s board decide to spend money in a bid to inject life into the struggling Blues squad.

“I believe a good moment will arrive”.

Germany’s scheduled match against Holland and Belgium’s friendly against Spain, which several Chelsea stars were due to play in, were also called off because of security fears.

Before the worldwide break, Mourinho and his players suffered a defeat at Stoke City – their third successive league loss and seventh overall.

A Saturday victory is huge for Chelsea as it will give them 14 points, inching them closer to the top 10 in the Premier League table. If I ask for players, or if the clubs give me a handful of players, it’s like taking a bit of the responsibility out of us and saying we need extra to reach our objectives.

“The statement from the owner and from the board comes from a belief that we are in a position to trust a manager who has delivered so much”, Emenalo said. We put ourselves in a great situation together by being champions.

“With all the respect I have for unpredictability in football, and all the respect I have for our opponents, I think we will play well and get a good result”, he said.

One of the reasons he believes his side will go through a good patch of form is because he has players like Radamel Falcao and Thibaut Courtois returning, the latter of which is expected to return in December, but Mourinho did not put a specific date on the Belgian’s return, but has confirmed he is doing a few training with the first team as he steps up his rehabilitation from a knee injury. “I hope we go until the end and in January we will be in a different situation”.

“He cares deeply, so when things aren’t going well it affects him in the same way it affects a fan”.

Chelsea have allowed more shots on target against them than any other team from inside the penalty area this season (49) and have not kept a clean sheet in five matches: back a home win with both teams scoring and +2.5 goals at 21/10 and 8/11.
