“Obviously in the big teams sometimes we face very low blocks where technical players who play in the box are very much needed, but a fast player with objective and who is direct can have success everywhere”.

José Mourinho has admitted feeling humiliated by the warmth of the support he continues to receive from Chelsea’s fans but is optimistic that they will have soon something to cheer even more enthusiastically.

After winning the league by eight points in May, Chelsea could find itself in the relegation zone before playing at surprise leaders Leicester on Monday.

Speaking in his pre-match conference, Jose Mourinho claimed that Leicester City can win the Premier League title, and they deserve to be at the top of the table.

The manager, however, made it clear that he has complete trust in the Spanish midfielder to get out of the slump, which has seen him provide just two assists thus far this season compared to 11 at the same stage last campaign.

He added: “In this moment they are in such a position where only three things can happen to them”. It would be something magnificent, something to impress the football world.

Mourinho said the 28-year-old England worldwide could succeed anywhere, although his direct style would be tested. We are where we are because we are under-performing.

He also praised Leicester’s Italian boss.

He said: “Sympathy? Yes, but I have a good relationship with all the managers”. John Terry was substituted in a home game under the former Real Madrid manager for the first time, while Branislav Ivanovic, who is one of the manager’s favourites has been dropped on more than one occasion. Things don’t look so good for Jose Mourinho’s men and another loss here would really put any remaining Champions League hopes in jeopardy. “Their memory is fantastic because, if not, they don’t treat me the way they do, they don’t treat the players the way they do, they don’t create a nice Stamford Bridge for us”.

“Before we lost the last three points against Bournemouth, I was convinced of a great December for us, to go for fourth”.
