“United now have a two-week break due to the worldwide fixtures and Mourinho says whether Rashford starts the next game will depend on who returns fit”.

Manchester United ace Luke Shaw says that he “loved” his side’s dramatic win over Hull City, which he describes as the “best feeling” he has felt on a football pitch.

Hull has been the surprise team in the first weeks, winning its first two games despite having no permanent manager, a slew of injuries, no signings since the end of last season, and with its owners looking to sell up. I think he can.

“You’ve got to be committed to what you do yourself and have some kind of identity and I thought the Hull City players today performed magnificently in all departments”.

“For me, the manager’s arrival is great, because with his way I’ll have more chances to score and hopefully we will be able to win more games”, he said.

United had 29 shots to Hull’s eight as they piled on the pressure in the second half, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Paul Pogba, Rooney and Rashford each going close before the latter grabbed his first goal of the season. “Him and [Henrikh] Mkhitaryan were the bright spark in the second half that changed the game for Man Utd”, said the Manchester United legend. “He’s an important player for us”.

“I’m just so happy that we could get the three points, not just for us but for the fans”.

“He knows that and he understands that and his time will come”. Mike Phelan, who’s now the Tigers’ caretaker manager, knows the striker very well from their time together at Old Trafford.

“He’s very good”, Mourinho said.

“I think up to my suspension previous year, things were going well for me, then I had two unfortunate injuries”.

“But coming on against a exhausted team that was trying to hold off high intensity waves of attacking football, for sure he comes fresh and comes sharp and he causes them problems”.

Despite the problems off the pitch, Hull City have made a fine start to their Premier League campaign after claiming six points from their first three matches of the season and Mike Phelan’s men have impressed many with their fearless performances.

And after navigating his team through Steve Bruce’s resignation and the failure to add a single player to the squad since promotion last May, Phelan admits that key issues must be resolved during the global break – including his own future. “I loved it and hopefully there’s more to come”.
