Jose Mourinho: ‘I wanted to substitute six Chelsea players against Newcastle’
The former England manager said: “Is the job harder than I thought?” At half-time, I said I was sorry I only had three substitutes as I wanted to change six. We’ve had a lot of bad luck and a few tough fixtures. However, it proved to be too good to be true as things unraveled in a hurry for Newcastle. However, two Brazilians were on the bench for the Blues, waiting for their time to shine. “I make the decisions”, was Mourinho’s reply to the inevitable Terry question.

“I also knew the kind of referee Mr Atkinson is”.
The Magpies next take on Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium as the Blues get set for a Champions League clash with FC Porto on Tuesday prior to the visit of Southampton on the weekend.
Jose Mourinho spoke of his confusion and concern at the end of another troubled afternoon. If this bothered him, he was disguising it but Gary Cahill was rather more up front about the state of the table. This is the current Dutch Player of the Year, and we need him to put in more performances like that over the course of the season. Now is the time for collective action, and for us to find solutions to the problems rather than allow ourselves to be consumed by them.
Chelsea looked the more desperate team to start the match as they aimed to dominate possession, but much like their earlier league matches, they failed to do much with said possession.
“But if we play like we did in the first, then we can lose every match“.
Again it was a brilliant shot by Ramires that gave Chelsea life. It would have been exceedingly harsh on the rejuvenated home team.
Just as when Newcastle was feeling comfortable on the 2-0 score, Chelsea clawed back.
“We’ve said it in the dressing room”. “We’ll take a point because if we’d lost it would have been a massive blow to us”.
Mitrovic lasted 85 minutes, at which stage it was 2-1. Ramires didn’t get a point on the second goal by Willian but he was certainly in on that play as well as he got a head on the free kick that eventually ended up in the back of the net.
“When you think about Mourinho’s ethic and philosophy, it’s all about being defensively watertight”, he added.
“You’re always going to miss Diego Costa, but in the first half, the way they played was shocking”.

“Ramires scored a fantastic goal and we just tried to help the team today”.
