Jose Mourinho: Man United boss tells Bastian Schweinsteiger he can go

Mourinho is surprised Bayern Munich have not attempted to bring Schweinsteiger back to the club where he played for 13 seasons before joining United previous year.

Schweinsteiger, 32, has declared he will not join another European club and Mourinho suggested that if he stays, he may not even play in the Europa League or the English Football League Cup.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho says that midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger is unlikely to make an appearance for the club this season.

Schweinsteiger has two years left on his United contract, and in terms of the prospect of him staying on at United despite not playing, Mourinho said: “I can not answer for him”.

“He has a contract with Man United and a right to make that decision and stay”.

“It’s more than enough and, if you have a problem or an opportunity, then I have a few young players in the academy that I will be more than happy to give acceleration to in their process”.

“I think the reality is he’s one of the most successful assistant managers in the country, in the Premier League”. Some players react in different ways and have different kinds of decisions. “He is free to do that in an objective and polite way like he did”.

But I think it is very hard for him (to play).

“It is very hard. I’m saying it’s very hard”.

His future at Old Trafford was under heavy speculation after he had allegedly been told to train with Man United’s reserves, but Mourinho has revealed in his press conference ahead of the Premier League fixture against Hull City that he could still play a role at the club.

Schweinsteiger, now training with the United academy squad, is unable to move to Major League Soccer in the US or the Chinese Super League at present as their transfer windows are closed until 2017, unless he becomes a free agent. “It’s very hard that an opportunity will arrive”.

“I think that more points will be needed to win the competition because numerous top teams under-performed past year, which was incredible for the beauty of the competition”, Mourinho added. “It is a big match to play in Istanbul as it is in Rotterdam, so it is a good draw for our squad”, said Mourinho.

However, the arrival of Zlatan Ibrahimovic means Rashford will find it far tougher to get into the team.

“The signings we’ve made this season have been really good signings”.

“Not surrounded by helicopters waiting for somebody to arrive or leave”.

“I think the top teams will go back to normality this year, but only one can win it”. I wouldn’t expect much more than that.
