Jose Mourinho: Manchester United legend Roy Keane brands Portuguese boss ‘really irritating’

They may not be the best of friends but Southampton manager Ronald Koeman slammed Manchester United for the treatment of former boss Louis van Gaal.

“I think it’s great for English football, not only what Leicester achieved past year with Claudio Ranieri coming in, Jose and Pep Guardiola up in Manchester, (Antonio) Conte coming to Chelsea as well, there’s a real fight amongst the managers”, said Terry. I think what the fans are expecting me to say is that I want to win.

The pair worked together at Barcelona in the late nineties, before Mourinho embarked on a managerial career which has enabled him to lift domestic titles in Portugal, England, Italy and Spain.

“His track record of success is ideal to take the club forward”.

Mystique “To become Manchester United manager is a special honour in the game”, Mourinho said.

Mourinho signed Willian for Chelsea in August 2013 for a fee of around £30 million, and to prise the 27-year-old from Stamford Bridge would cost at least £50m, with the player having two years left on his contract.

Meanwhile, Ryan Giggs is said to be “very unhappy” with the prospect of being demoted at Manchester United by Mourinho, strengthening the prospect of the club legend leaving after 29 years with the Premier League side.

Mourinho has eight league titles to his name from his days with Porto, Chelsea, Inter and Real Madrid, including three Premier League triumphs.

As for his first signing, Zlatan Ibrahimovic is reportedly close to joining United after his time at Paris St Germain came to an end.

United’s fifth-place finish under Van Gaal this season meant they failed to qualify for the Champions League for the second time since Ferguson left. United gets knocked out of the quarter final of the Europa League by Roma, also exiting the Capital One Cup in fourth round after losing to Arsenal.

But other former players, including goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel and former captain Steve Bruce, believe he will revive the club’s fortunes.

England’s new rising star – who looks set to be named in Roy Hodgson’s Euro 2016 squad this week after scoring on his debut against Australia – has agreed terms that will see his wages leap from £1,500-a-week to £25,000-a-week plus bonuses.

“It’s exactly what he needs, a big club, and that’s what he’s got”, he added.
