Jose Mourinho prepares to trim his squad following Paul Pogba arrival

“I’m very happy for him and what he’s doing, very proud of him, because he just keeps it up”.

French star Paul Pogba’s move from Juventus to Manchester United for 89 million pounds ($116 million), a sum confirmed by Juventus, makes him the world’s most expensive player.

Nevertheless, Altafini believes Pogba’s development has stalled in recent years and he feels the 23-year-old is still at the same level as in 2014. Houllier, however, has warned the midfielder is not certain to succeed at Old Trafford. And he’s certainly dreaming big in his new era for the club under Jose Mourinho. It would be one of only seven appearances he would make during his first spell at Old Trafford.

The Manchester United manage used Pogba’s unveiling as a Red Devil to once again take a swipe at his EPL rivals.

“Paul told me before he left that he wanted to be the best player in the world”.

“When I heard some of the comments and heard some of the managers criticising that, I don’t think they ever have this problem because, to have this problem, you need to be at one of the top clubs in the world”.

“What United have done is buy a young man who has the potential and talent to become the game’s next all-action hero”.

“If I had hired him, I would have said to him, ‘I was ready to spend even more money to get you”.

Morgan Schneiderlin will no doubt play his part as Carrick won’t be able to play every match while Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini will also push for starts, but I see Pogba and Carrick as the first choice pairing in the middle of the park.

After a weeks-long wrangle, United announced Pogba had signed a five-year contract, marking his return to a club that had let him go for a token fee in 2012.

Pogba’s arrival at United, following the signings of Eric Bailly, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitarayan earlier this summer, has seen Mourinho secure all of his top targets ahead of the Premier League opener at Bournemouth this weekend.

Mourinho said Pogba was “like a kid who is back to his old school”.

United start their campaigns in both the Capital One Cup and the Europa League in September, giving manager Mourinho the chance to use more of his players.

“But this group of 23 is a great group and I think in this moment – and I told them this – there is a little bit of frustration for the ones that I have not selected”.

“The best players in the world are at Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, and they need to start coming to Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, City”.
