Faria and Mourinho go back together as far as 2001 when, as manager of União Leiria, Mourinho hired Faria as his fitness and assistant coach.

That is the role which has been occupied by Ryan Giggs for the last three seasons, but the Welshman announced his exit from the club at the weekend when it became clear he wouldn’t be offered the same role under Mourinho. The 57-year-old has spent the majority of his post-playing career as a goalkeeping coach, but his role at Chelsea was changed to assistant first-team coach, due to the presence of long-term Blues goalkeeper coach Lollichon. “The new arrivals are assistant manager Rui Faria, coaches Silvino Louro, Ricardo Formosinho, Carlos Lalin and Emilio Alvarez plus analyst Giovanni Cerra”.

So far all has been quiet from the De Gea camp, with Madrid seemingly not interested in a move this summer, while comments from the player suggest he is happy to remain at Old Trafford as an exciting new era begins under Jose Mourinho.

Despite speculation linking him with a return to the Spanish capital, it now seems likely that De Gea will remain at Old Trafford for the foreseeable future.

He has never previously worked with Mourinho before (though they are both good friends with agent Jorge Mendes) but Alvarez is extremely close to David De Gea, having mentored the goalkeeper when he was a teenager at Atletico Madrid.
