Joseph Schooling “Stops the Nation” with Singapore’s First Ever Olympic Gold

The world record holder has remarkably won the event at the past three Games but was peeved after failing to qualify for the evening’s second semi-final and give himself extra breathing space after his defence of the 200m individual medley.

Olympians Ryan Lochte and Michael Phelps could be putting their 12-year rivalry – one that has dominated the world of swimming – to rest after competing in this year’s summer Olympic games in Rio de Janeiro.

Astonishingly, all three had touched out in 51.14 seconds, behind Schooling’s Olympic record 50.39 in the second dead-heat in a final in two days.

The 31-year-old Phelps moved on to the evening semifinals, carrying on his bid to become a four-time champion in an event he first won at the 2004 Athens Olympics. The junior swept all four butterfly events in his first two years at Texas.

“I don’t know if I’ve been in a tie so a three-way touch is pretty wild”, said Phelps, whose Olympic gold medal tally remains at a staggering 22. Ledecky captured her second gold medal of the Games after holding off a fearless charge from Sweden’s Sarah Sjostrom in an absorbing women’s 200m freestyle final.

Phelps has already come back from retirement once, but has said he plans to retire after Rio.

A potential Latin American grudge match is on tap at the Rio Olympics as Brazil takes on Colombia in the men’s soccer quarterfinals.

Now the most decorated Olympian of all time, US swimmer Michael Phelps has racked up 26 career Olympic medals, 22 of which are gold. “I got silver tie in London so a three way tie is insane”.

“It’s insane to think back over the past year or so what’s happened and where I’m at now”. “I think a lot of this is because of Michael”.

“That’s why he brings out the best in me and hopefully I do the exact same for him”.

“My first gold medal, at my first Olympics, is kind of a surprise to me”, Manuel told reporters. Meyer took the 200, 400 and 800 at the 1968 Mexico Games, and Ledecky matched that performance with a couple of world records as well.

Lochte turned 32 last week and is non-committal about whether Rio is his last Olympics.

Poor Friedman. After what must have felt like an eternal silence, you can just hear it in his voice that he can’t believe that happened when he apologized to viewers.
