Washington Redskins rookie receiver Josh Doctson ran routes at half speed Tuesday, representing further progress in his return from Achilles tendonitis.

Jones (shoulder) will miss the final two preseason games, Mike Jones of the Washington Post reports.

Coach Jay Gruden told reporters that he has “high hopes” that Jones will be ready for the regular-season opener against Pittsburgh on September 12. “[Crowder] has a little sore knee and he’s just going through the rehab”.

As a result, the Redskins felt strong enough in Jones that they let Morris go this offseason and he signed with the rival Dallas Cowboys. “I’m not saying that preseason doesn’t matter, I do want to still get better, but I’ve got some time to get ready for the first game”. “I’m moving fast in my healing process right now”, Jones said.

With Jones out, Gruden says rookies Robert Kelley and Keith Marshall, second-year player Mack Brown and third-down back Chris Thompson will share the carries. “Obviously, we couldn’t take him in the first round if he didn’t have the skill set that we could find something for him to do somewhere on the field”.

Gruden and his assistant coaches believe that Doctson will have a chance to contribute shortly after he receives clearance to play because he has attended all of his position group’s meetings, so he understands the offense.

Quarterback Kirk Cousins, who was held out of the Jets game to rest, recalled his own experience as a young player and hopes to help the young running backs Friday as they fill in for Jones.
