The Angry Birds’ game lore always led us to believe the birds didn’t freak out until the pigs stole their eggs.

Such seems to be the case for The Angry Birds Movie, from Sony Pictures and mobile game developer Rovio. The film stars actors like Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, and Danny McBride, along with numerous usual faces you’ll see working with them. According to those details the movie should be making its way to theaters sometime in the Summer of 2016, and as long as there are no major setbacks for Rovio or the film’s studio, everything should stay on target.
During its prime, the “Angry Birds” game became one of the hottest apps on both Android and iOS.
The movie is said to depict the first fateful meeting between birds and pigs, explaining why the birds are so angry. The first trailer of the “Angry Birds” movie will give you a peek at the answer. The film is directed by Clay Kaytis and Fergal Reilly, and written by Simpsons scribe Jon Vitti. They’ll act as the core trio of Sony’s Angry Birds, with an impressive ensemble cast that includes Bill Hader, Kate McKinnon, Maya Rudolph, Keegan-Michael Key and Peter Dinklage.
Downloaded more than three billion times on to iPhones across the globe, Angry Birds is one of the most successful video games of all time – even Prince William has been known to dabble. This kicks off the trailer for the new The Angry Birds Movie.
The trailer opens to a secluded island paradise populated by flightless birds.

Reaction to the trailer has been divisive so far, but I wonder if folks who think it looks awful are letting the source material get to them. Like, for real? Sure, everyone knows the name and everyone has had this game on their smartphones at some point, but is anyone actually passionate enough to get pumped up to see these birds on the big screen?
