Josh McCown (collarbone) placed on IR

The start will be Davis’ first since he joined the Browns in September and ninth of his National Football League career.

The 2-9 Browns are going to finish where they’re used to – at the bottom of the AFC North, losing six games in a row since a 2-3 start.

“Austin took advantage of his opportunity on Monday night”, Coach Mike Pettine said in an article posted to the team’s web site.

Manziel, who has gone 1-2 as a starter this season, was inactive Monday as the No. 3 quarterback.

While we don’t know which quarterback the Pittsburgh Steelers will face in Week 17 when they play the Cleveland Browns, we now know that it won’t be veteran Josh McCown.

Josh McCown was put on the injured reserve list with a broken collarbone yesterday opening the door for Davis.

“The insurance policy that he does give us is you at last have viable third quarterback on the roster”, Pettine said. He did reiterate picking the starting quarterback is his decision to make, and not the front office’s.

McCown suffered the injury in the third quarter, and while he returned for a short period in the fourth quarter, it was backup Austin Davis who led the Browns’ comeback and a shot at a game-winning field goal. Many felt that Austin Davis would have been given the nod since he looked pretty solid in replacing McCown. “We are going to take everything into consideration and then make a decision for this week that is best for the team”.

The Cleveland Browns have named a starting quarterback for Sunday’s game against Cincinnati – and it’s not Johnny Manziel.

“I don’t want to head down this slope”, he said. Manziel was being punished for reportedly lying to the team about when a video of him partying took place. “He is as prepared as any quarterback that I have been around”, Pettine said.

McCown was 21-for-38 for 212 yards and a touchdown, while Davis completed seven of 10 passes for 77 yards and a score. Most recently, Baltimore has managed to block a punt or kick in five straight games. The Ravens, mixing run and pass, surged back on top 24-20 with a 12-play, 80-yard drive capped with a 15-yard pass from Schaub to wide receiver Kamar Aiken.
