Joshua floors Breazeale to retain IBF heavyweight title

If Dominic Breazeale had read the script, he would realise that he was back in London to lose.

Olympic champion Joshua, who won the world heavyweight crown in only his 16th professional fight, will put up his first defence of the title against Californian Breazeale on Saturday.

Regarding Joshua’s encounter with American Dominican Breazeale on Saturday in the city of London, Parker predicts that Joshua will win the first three or four rounds.

For the IBF heavyweight champion Englishmen Anthony Joshua says he is willing to knock Breazeale out.

Wilder will be part of the Showtime team covering the fight from New York City and the WBC king will be on the edge of his seat as he can not split champion or challenger as Joshua prepares to defend the World title he landed in April with a devastating second round KO win over Charles Martin.

It had been hoped his plans would include WBA and WBO champion Tyson Fury, but the ankle injury he recently suffered forced his rematch with Wladimir Klitschko to be postponed, most likely until October.

Joshua will defend his title against Breazeale on Saturday in London. “I need some time off”, said Joshua after the fight.

“Now I want rest, to recharge my batteries before I get to it again”.

Asked about Joseph Parker, his IBF mandatory, Joshua said of his next fight, “I think it’s gonna have to be the likes of Parker”.

The 6-foot-7 Breazeale certainly proved that he could take a shot, though, and started to fire back with some combinations of his own in Round 5, but Joshua just seemed to shake off the best the challenger could deliver.

“We’re going to have to reschedule that and look at other opponents like Parker if he’s vacant or anybody else that the people want”.

The fight tops the bill on a big night of British boxing at the O2.

“Tyson Fury is a big asset to boxing whether you like him or not and it was a fight that the public wanted to see”.

“I’ve got a good relationship with the (Team GB) boys”.

But Breazeale, a former college football quarterback from Los Angeles who at 6ft 7ins is an inch taller than Joshua, is confident of pulling off the shock win, silencing the home crowd and proving the local bookmakers wrong.

Joshua mentioned the possibility of a future world title unification fight with Alabama’s Deontay Wilder, the WBC champion. “I’m glad he called me out because I’m ready, so whenever they’re ready, let’s get it on”.
