Joy as Hazard brings Leicester historic title

The 65-year-old wants Ranieri recognised after the Foxes clinched a stunning Barclays Premier League crown when Chelsea drew 2-2 with Tottenham.

Tottenham’s failure to beat Chelsea gives the title to Leicester City.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side made a great start to their must-win game at Stamford Bridge after Kane and Son Heung-min scored in the first half at Stamford Bridge. But Gary Cahill pulled one back in the second half before Hazard struck.

With only two matches left in the season (and a win being worth three points), there is now no scenario where Tottenham can overhaul the Foxes.

Leicester, who were bottom of the table last Christmas, began this season at 5000-1 odds to lift the trophy after needing a late push to avoid relegation a year ago.

Leicester Supporters’ Club chairman Cliff Ginnetta has called for boss Claudio Ranieri to be honoured and believes their shock title win is the start of a new era.

The Leicester players, though, watched at Vardy’s house.

Manager Claudio Ranieri had originally said he would not be around to see what turned out to be the decisive game at Stamford Bridge as he was having lunch with his mother in Italy.

Ranieri had never previously won a league title and was sacked by Chelsea in 2004, but chants of “There’s only one Ranieri!” rang around the game as the final whistle approached.

Oddly, the biggest match in Leicester’s history was one they were not involved in as the final act of an absorbing title race was played out between last year’s champions and a Tottenham side who have refused to give up the chase. “I can’t wait to get my hands on the trophy”. I was a massive sceptic of Claudio Ranieri.

Ed Chamberlin, speaking on Monday Night Football described it perfectly: “That’s what it feels like to be a Premier League champion”, he said. “I’ve never known anything like it”, said the 29-year-old England worldwide, who Leicester bought for £1m in May 2012. Word got out that his home was the venue and a crowd of around 100 had gathered, mostly schoolchildren, had gathered by the time the players arrived and they stayed to party in the streets afterwards.

“But they did so well especially when you can be on top by surprise at [halfway through] the season”.

“You can see in every game in the last few days a lot of things happen, because we are at the end of the season and a lot of emotion”. “In 100 years” time people will still be talking about this story.

“Everyone’s worked so hard for this, nobody believed we could do it, but here we are, Premier League champions and deservedly so”, Morgan told the club website (www.lcfc.com).
