Juan Lagares productive as leadoff hitter

The New York Mets have chosen to keep top outfield prospect Michael Conforto in the major leagues despite activating Michael Cuddyer from the 15-day disabled list.

Of Lagares winning back the everyday gig, Collins said, “We’re not going to try to change it right now”.

Since Cuddyer was hurt, the Mets have revamped their lineup, acquiring Yoenis Cespedes, Juan Uribe and Kelly Johnson, and the team has gone from three games out of first place in the NL East to leading the division by 1 1/2 games. There were rumors that Cuddyer could be activated in time for the weekend series the Mets just finished up with the Tampa Bay Rays, but the Mets decided to hold him out.

RHP Matt Harvey will look to continue his two-month stretch of dominance Tuesday, when he takes the mound for the Mets in the second game of a four-game series against the Rockies at Citi Field. 250 with eight homers and 30 RBIs, but was really starting to swing the bat well prior suffering the knee injury on July 21, hitting.

Michael Conforto remains with the big league club.

Conforto was optioned to Las Vegas after Cespedes was obtained from Detroit at the non-waiver trade deadline, but he was recalled a day later, when Kirk Nieuwenhuis was injured.

“He is one of the ultimate pros I have ever been around”, Collins said of Cuddyer. But he also bristles at the idea that Conforto is a platoon player beyond whatever platooning the manager might do now. Since Cuddyer went on the DL July 21st, the Mets have made a number of upgrades to their lineup. He’s done a nice job, he’s going to be a good player, we’re doing the best we can to make sure he gets the playing time that we think when he’s in there.

Simply shifting Cuddyer into a part-time or bench role is also an option, although the Mets gave up a first-round draft pick to sign him this offseason and still owe him $12.5 million for 2016. “They dictate a lot”.

Campbell was hitting. 179 with three home runs and 19 RBIs in 61 games with the Mets this season. “You don’t hit good, somebody else is”.

Right now, Granderson and Duda are hitting well.

However, right fielder Curtis Granderson has struggled mightily against left-handed pitching (.159/.196/.227 stat line) and Collins indicated Cuddyer could get some time when the Mets are facing a lefty. “We’re happy to be 4-2, and we’re looking forward to the home stand”.
