Juan Mata calls for reaction from Manchester United

The 21-year-old is said to have been playing through the pain barrier for United at Vicarage Road but his plight didn’t prevent Mourinho from firing criticism his way for his role Juan Camilo Zúñiga’s 83rd-minute strike, the hosts’ second of the afternoon.

The Sky Bet League One side welcome United to the Sixfields Stadium on Wednesday for their third round encounter – live on Sky Sports 1 HD from 7.30pm – aiming to inflict a fourth straight defeat on the Red Devils.

Shaw reportedly feels Mourninho should have offered him more private feedback on his mistakes against Watford, rather than voicing them to the press, according to The Times.

He went on: “First of all, we visit Northampton Town in the EFL Cup, in our first game of the season in this competition”.

Shaw has started all five of United’s Premier League games so far. Mourinho is becoming increasingly unhappy with the club’s pressing game, revealing that the speed his players are reacting with when out of possession is nowhere near quick enough.

The result, coupled with derby defeat to Manchester City last weekend and Thursday night’s Europa League loss to Feyenoord, means Mourinho has lost three successive games for the first time in over a decade. Paul Pogba is being asked to do too much in midfield, and Marouane Fellaini and Rooney are not able to provide any semblance of consistent support to the young French star.

“However, it was precisely in that good moment that they scored again and since then until the final whistle they were in better control of the situation, and we lost the three points”.

The possible groin injury to Shaw is also bad news for United, as it could see the young Englishman ruled out for up to three weeks.

“I was completely aware that we were not ideal, with lots of players who are not end products and can make their own mistakes. My doubt was how they could cope when the negative moment arrived”.

“I believe there’s no need to start by describing how frustrated we feel in the team after losing at Watford”, Mata wrote on his blog. Another goal burst came in the second half when James McArthur and Andros Townsend netted inside four minutes, while Marko Arnautovic got Stoke’s only goal in stoppage time._SOUTHAMPTON 1, SWANSEA 0Claude Puel’s wait for a win as Southampton manager is over thanks to Charlie Austin’s goal.

“Kolarov has the ball in a hard situation in the corner and my players, instead of going up to press they decide to give space”.
