Juan Mata grabs starting opportunity given by Mourinho

Ibrahimovic marked his Premier League debut with a goal as Jose Mourinho’s United tenure began with a convincing 3-1 victory.

“I’m really happy with him, but I’m really happy with the whole team, even with the ones that came on later because they gave a contribution, and even with the ones on the bench”.

“The Golden Ball was there but it was always going to two guys with a better political entourage”, Mourinho said to the BBC.

Goals from Juan Mata, Wayne Rooney and new signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic were enough to bag the points, and a brilliant consolation goal was scored by Bournemouth’s Adam Smith.

He said his side’s priority was winning the Premier League or at least finishing in the top four to earn Champions League qualification for the following season.

The Portuguese manager said that Ibrahimovic is always surrounded by his young team-mates like Marcus Rashford and Luke Shaw at his table for breakfast and meals, Sport24 reported.

United’s win sees them top the table, but Mourinho does not believe his side needed to lay down a marker about their title aspirations.

Mata seized on Simon Francis’s weak back-pass and a kind ricochet to poke the opening goal and Rooney guided in Anthony Martial’s wayward shot for United’s second.

Despite playing in the era of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, Mourinho is perplexed as to why the 34-year-old striker has yet to win a Ballon d’Or award.

“But whoever scores helps the team”.

“The performance was very good based on a collective display and there were also some very good individual performances”.

However, in all five of their Sunday games last season Bournemouth walked away with defeats, and in coming up against Jose Mourinho – who has won six and drawn one of his last seven opening-day fixtures – the Cherries need something special. Then starts the real marathon and there is space for everybody.

BARCELONA UP: Luis Suarez and Munir El Haddadi scored in the second half to give Barcelona a 2-0 win at Sevilla in the first leg of the Spanish Super Cup.

“So on Friday in the first home match which can bring some pressure we will go with a good feeling”. I have to select people and the ones not playing, they are frustrated.

“For the team, you have to forget the passport”, he said.
