“It feels good. First official game, we played for the trophy and we won”.

“This is my 31st trophy and I’m super happy”.

And Fuchs reacted: “I think it was a good performance and we had our chances, a couple more chances than United”.

“They brought an intensity to the game which was hard for us to cope with”, he added.

Goals from Jesse Lingard and Zlatan Ibrahimovic cancelled out a Jamie Vardy equaliser as United lifted their second trophy at Wembley in three months. The Community Shield might be a one-off match but it did provide a stern test for the Manchester side as they took on defending Premier League Champions Leicester City.

I would be not ambitious if I said it was a fantastic performance. ‘I needed to take off the smallest player because we were expecting a lot of long balls. In addition to the win, it finally looks as though the Paul Pogba transfer is ready to be completed.

“I feel very good”.

Mourinho dedicated the victory to former United boss Louis van Gaal, “because without him we would not be here celebrating”.

“I also want to dedicate to the seven players who did not play, It hurts me to leave behind the likes of Depay, Jones, Young”. For a man who has played for Barcelona, AC Milan, and Paris St-Germain, he certainly has a few big names to compare it to. “Before the match I asked for 120 per cent and they gave me 120 per cent”.

Ibrahimovic’s trophy-laden career began with a Dutch league and cup double with Ajax in 2000-01, following his move from Malmo in Sweden.

But Mourinho, who sold Mata to United during his first season back as Chelsea manager in 2013-14, says he made the change to help run out the clock while leaving his team capable of defending from late set-pieces.
