Juan Williams: Kavanaugh Pick ‘May Be Part of a Trump Defense Strategy’
Democrats are likely to confront Kavanaugh with those words when he sits for his confirmation hearing. They warn that Kavanaugh could be part of majority decisions rolling back women’s access to abortion and undoing aspects of the Affordable Care Act. Orrin Hatch of Utah, who called the judge “a very fine man”, and was to confer with Sen. John Cornyn of Texas, the No. 2 Republican, and Sen. At the same time, several democratic senators are facing re-election in more conservative states and will be faced with the choice of supporting their party or having to defend a vote against the president to a constituency that largely supports him.

“There is no one in America more qualified for this position, or more deserving”, the president said.
“I don’t concede the point that it’s somehow counterproductive to the goal of winning in the midterms to fight like hell to stop Brett Kavanaugh”, Fallon said.
“His outstanding qualifications is going to make very hard for people to vote against him”, he said.
Not everyone was quick to accept the White House explanation of Kavanaugh’s baseball debts paid off by friends, however, with comments on social media questioning the Trump court nominee’s judgement, as well as the official explanation. But their lines of attack have expanded.
Kavanaugh said he has worked as a school tutor for struggling kids. He said the judge noted that he had proposed that Congress impose limits on investigations of sitting presidents.
In selecting Kavanaugh, Trump “has put women’s reproductive rights and vital health care protections… at grave, grave risk”, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer told reporters outside the Supreme Court on Tuesday.
He added: “It was a law review article”. Kavanaugh was first confirmed to the appellate court in 2006.
But: Donnelly has also demonstrated a willingness to vote against Trump on big votes, like the tax bill.
“For me it’s a threshold qualifying question”, said Sen. Do they think if they blocked Kavanaugh, Trump would name a moderate? OK, that gives Trump a total of one votes. Susan Collins of ME – are uncertain. I think the answer to that is: “We’re not certain”.
Other Democrats are anxious about Kavanaugh’s written opinion that a President should not face legal action for a crime while in office.
He said that Kavanaugh has assets of almost $1 million between the equity in his home and his retirement account. About 10 key senators – two or three Republicans and a half dozen Democrats – are facing intense pressure over their votes.
The focus is not just on influencing the confirmation votes in the Senate but on using the Supreme Court nomination battle to energize Trump supporters to turn out for Republican candidates in the fall elections.
On Wednesday, the former press secretary for Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign told ABC’s Powerhouse Politics podcast hosts Jonathan Karl and Rick Klein that “there’s more than a million pages of documents” from Kavanaugh’s time working under President George W. Bush.
The report took a more liberal approach to the definition of obstruction of justice, but after seeing the toll that investigations can take on presidents, Kavanaugh rescinded his approach and now argues that presidents should be exempt from criminal prosecutions and civil suits. “He was always the guy who was going home to do his homework”. Your work and support for President Trump have resulted in the nomination of a second outstanding justice to the court.
Presidents of both major parties have been choosing nominees of similar professional and educational experience for decades because the stakes have risen so high in filling Supreme Court vacancies.

“If Kavanaugh reveals himself in his confirmation hearings to be someone in that mold, the Trump base will not look fondly on providing a companion for Chief Justice Roberts”.
