Judge criticizes convicted attorney general
“With the heroin epidemic endangering the lives of our residents on a daily basis, and ongoing battles against organized crime and child predators, the people of this state deserve and need a functional attorney general”.

She called for the release of the emails, but the move was blocked by state court Judge William Carpenter under what Kane called “a tortured interpretation of our state’s grand jury secrecy law”.
Kane, the first Democrat and first woman elected to serve as state attorney general, was directed to surrender her passport.
Kane’s lawyer, Farber, denied that she orchestrated a leak and that she lied to a grand jury to cover it up, and he played down the power of her office.
“Kathleen is, like, unhinged”, Morrow said on the tape, adding, “Instead of having a strategy to do this, it’s like, let me just throw everything at the wall and see what sticks”. “And the jury listened to the evidence and they got it right”.
If the prosecutors were talking about a potential Kane resignation, however, that was not happening just yet.
“That issue will be dealt with in the next several days”, Shargel said. I believed this when she was charged, and today, after conviction, there should be no question that she should resign immediately.
Kane was accused of leaking grand jury secrets to embarrass a rival prosecutor, who she blamed for a critical news article. These are unbecoming of the commonwealth’s top law enforcement officer.
“Kathleen and I came up with a story, about what I was going to testify to and what she was going to testify to”, Morrow said last week.
Trial prosecutor Michelle Henry says the crimes committed by the state’s top law enforcement officer are “a disgrace”.
Pennsylvania attorney general Kathleen Kane was convicted on all accounts in a trial stemming from a political rivalry with an opponent, The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
And he promised a vigorous set of appeals.
“The conviction on all counts was a crushing blow. But we have not lost our resolve”, Shargel said.
“We will continue this litigation; we will continue this fight because we believe that our client has been wrongfully accused of misconduct”, he said. Kane decided on Friday not to testify at her trial or put on any defense witnesses.
Kane, who is the first woman and the first Democrat elected as Pennsylvania’s attorney general, said in the past that she had been targeted by the same old-boy network that she has sought to scrutinize.
Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane enters a courtroom at the Montgomery County Courthouse, Monday, Aug. 15, 2016, in Norristown, Pa., where closing arguments are expected during her perjury and obstruction trial.
The perjury counts are third-degree felonies; each carry a maximum sentence of seven years in prison, but it is unlikely Kane will face that much time. But state sentencing guidelines for first-time offenders call for much lower sentences, and can leave the door open to probation.

As with any war, Steele said, there were casualties. “There’s a lot of considerations here”.
