New York Yankees’ Aaron Judge (99) receives congratulations at the dugout after hitting a two-run home run during the second inning of the team’s baseball game against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park, Wednesday, April 26, 2017, in Boston.
Trevor Bauer (2-2) allowed four runs in six innings and won his second straight start despite giving up two-run homers to Evan Gattis and Brian McCann.
Greg Bird, who had one hit in his previous 21 at-bats, added a two-out, opposite-field double off the Green Monster in the sixth that upped the visitor’s lead to 3-0. Porcello allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits in 6 2/3 innings.
Dellin Betances provided a ideal eighth inning and manager Joe Girardi called on closer Aroldis Chapman with a three-run lead in the ninth Wednesday against a Red Sox lineup without Dustin Pedroia and Pablo Sandoval. But on Wednesday, the former Chicago White Sox ace, a five-time all-star and the 2015 AL strikeout king, will be facing NY for the first time in a Red Sox uniform, after a December trade that brought him to Boston for four prospects.
“I really didn’t feel too much”, Judge said of landing on an empty seat. This time, the official score will put it against Porcello, as he was charged with a wild pitch on a ball in the dirt that got by Sandy Leon and allowed Judge to advance to second after his two-out walk.
Nick is a contributer to the CLNS Red Sox beat team. “Obviously they’re going to be one of the teams we’re fighting all year with, so we’re looking forward to taking a breather (Monday) and getting back after it on (Wednesday)”. We will find out in Game 1 of the series. After scoring just two runs in the first two games of the series, Boston salvaged Sunday by collecting 14 hits in a 6-2 win.
Boston Red Sox starter Rick Porcello is one loss away from matching his season total from 2016.
This being Fenway, the Red Sox inserted some theater in the ninth, bringing the potential winning run to the plate against Aroldis Chapman.
It remains uncertain how the pitching matchups will be affected by the rainout.
The Red Sox have a distinct advantage here, and that’s Sale on the mound. It makes sports better, more important and certainly more fun.
Pedroia has been out since he was spiked in the left leg during a late slide by Manny Machado on Friday.

The Yankees lost the top spot this week, but with inter-divisional games coming up, they look to regain it. “I was just a little out in front of it”.
