Judge refuses to throw out defamation suit against Cosby

Cosby, who as of September 2015 has been accused of sexual assault by more than 50 women, received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree from NU in 1997, according to an article from that year in The Daily.

Serignese and Traitz filed an amended complaint with Green accusing him of also defaming them in the press.

Bill Cosby was ordered to answer questions, on camera and under oath. Cosby has denied all wrongdoing.

She said she took to her personal Facebook page late a year ago to explain her story. The judge concludes that a jury could find those comments addressing the women and that the gist of the statements – basically that they fabricated a tale – is provable as true or. His lawyers say it does not represent an admission that he has done anything wrong. The women are seeking unspecified monetary damages.

Malcolm Jamal Warner, who played his son on “The Cosby Show” says these allegations have “tarnished” the hit series’ legacy.

Cosby attempted to get the case thrown out even before discovery in the lawsuit had begun.

Cosby will be deposed on Friday, but the judge has yet to rule on the actor’s request to have a protective order issued to keep his testimony sealed.

The judge explains that the women have provided enough evidence thus far to allow the case to continue on into the discovery portion.

The comedian, embroiled in a long-running scandal amid numerous allegations of sexual abuse, reportedly has about 60 honorary degrees.

“Those making Defendant’s public statements had an open line of communication with him as well as a few historical perspective on his public relations matters”.

The NBC broadcast was timed to coincide with Cosby’s scheduled deposition Friday in the case of a woman who accused Cosby of molesting her at the Playboy Mansion in 1974, when she was 15.

In a deposition given in 2005, as part of a case that was settled out of court, Cosby admitted obtaining the sedatives Quaaludes to give to women for sex.

But the star is now facing allegations of sexual offences from more than 40 women.
