Julia Louis-Dreyfus dedicates Emmys win to late father

Actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus, accepting her fifth consecutive best actress Emmy for Veep, jokingly lamented that real politics is beginning to resemble the Washington world her comedy series pokes fun at.

Tonight, she thanked Mandel “for letting me trick him into running the show”.

“I am so glad that he liked Veep”, she said, her voice breaking down as she accepted the award.

The show, Louis-Dreyfus admitted, felt “like a sobering commentary, I would like to rebuild that wall and have Mexico pay for it”.

Her hand trembling, the “Seinfeld” and “Saturday Night Live” alum dedicated the award to her father, businessman William Louis-Dreyfus, who died Friday, “because his opinion was the only one that really mattered”.

Fantasy drama series Game of Thrones and comedy Veep have won the top Emmys for a second straight year, fending off challenges from newcomers.

This also marks her tenth overall nomination for the award, tying Mary Tyler Moore for the most overall nominations.

“Did you know you can make United States dollars 12 an hour driving for Uber?” he asked Kimmel.

The Jaws star wrote: “I’m actually not Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ father”.

Fighting back tears, Julia said, “I’d like to dedicate this to my father William Louis-Dreyfus, who passed away on Friday”.

Jeffrey Tambor, who plays her transgender ex-spouse and is vying to repeat as best comedy actor, shared serious words about the series. “I have not always been a good man but I play one hell of a woman”.

It’s “changing the landscape of television”.

But the top drama acting trophies were far from predictable: Rami Malek of “Mr. Robot” and Tatiana Maslany of “Orphan Black” were the winners, both overcoming heavyweight competition.

“I find the level of discourse in this campaign to be horrific”, he said.
