On a lighter note in her speech, Julia – whose win was her record-breaking sixth in the category – sparked laughs as she compared the current United States political landscape to that shown in her satirical TV show.

Yet her costar says that if anyone could put on a courageous face and attend the Emmys in those circumstances, it’s her.

Egyptian-American Rami Malek took home his first Emmy for best drama actor for playing a socially inept computer hacker in “Mr. Robot”, while Canadian Tatiana Maslany was a surprise victor for playing a woman with multiple cloned personalities in “Orphan Black”. That’s an incredibly hard thing to do under those circumstances, but it doesn’t surprise me that she’s able to handle it.

Jeffrey Tambor won best lead actor in a comedy series for his role in the Amazon series Transparent and urged the television industry to provide more opportunities for transgender actors.

“Our show started as a political satire, but now seems like a documentary”.

JLD picked up her fifth consecutive Emmy Award a short while ago for her role as Selina Meyer on HBO’s stunningly amusing series ‘Veep,’ breaking the record for most consecutive Emmy Awards won by an actor.

Louis-Dreyfus said that HBO President of Programming Casey Bloys and network Chairman and CEO Richard Plepler had proved their deep friendship “especially this week”. “Give them auditions. Give them their stories”, he said.

Mandel named Jim Downey, Al Franken, Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David (“wherever the heck he is”, he joked) as the ones who taught him how to write comedy in his speech.

Louie Anderson took home the outstanding supporting actor in a comedy series for his performance in Baskets. “But I knew how natural she was, and how much she liked life, and fun, she was always very amusing and fun to be around”. Anderson said, giving credit to his late mother for inspiring his approach to the part.

Malek, 35, took home his first career Emmy for best dramatic actor for his role as socially awkward computer hacker Elliot Alderson, who goes to work for an anarchist in the US series “Mr. Robot”.

“Thank you, Ellen DeGeneres”.

Host Jimmy Kimmel was nimble and brutal, and nothing was taboo.

Politics, as you would expect, found its way into Kimmel’s rollicking monologue.

Kimmel later fake-blamed uber-producer Mark Burnett – who brought Trump’s “The Apprentice” to the small screen – for the billionaire’s political rise.
