Julia Louis-Dreyfus Holds Back Tears in Emmys Tribute to Father

Julia Louis-Dreyfus couldn’t hold back her tears as she revealed her father passed away just two days before the 2016 Emmy Awards. Her acceptance speech said, “I’d also like to take this opportunity to personally apologize for the current political climate”.

On Veep, Louis-Dreyfus portrays a somewhat bumbling vice president who later becomes the acting president, despite her hapless staff making political blunders along the way.

“Thanks to Mark Burnett, we don’t have to watch reality shows any more, because we’re living them”, Kimmel said.

The actress then concluded with a touching dedication to her father William who died on Friday, aged 84.

As hard as the moment must have been for Louis Dreyfus, it was a truly lovely tribute to her father.

It is McKinnon’s first Emmy win for her work on the NBC comedy show, in which she plays a variety of roles. “So I certainly do promise to rebuild that wall and make Mexico pay for it”.

Ben Mendelsohn of “Bloodline” won as best supporting drama actor and also was a no-show.

But Julia wasn’t all waterworks in her speech.

But some confused fans thought when the 55-year-old actress said her father passed away, she was talking about famed actor Richard Dreyfuss.

Rami Malek was named best lead actor in a drama series for his role in Mr Robot, while Tatiana Maslany won best actress in a drama series for her performance in BBC America series Orphan Black.

As she did a year ago, Soloway took advantage of the platform to speak up for diversity and the transgender, closing with a chant of “Topple the patriarchy!”

The Oscar victor then launched into a brief rant, in which he slammed the Emmys for not recognizing his long career in television, including The Education of Max Bickford and The Day Reagan Was Shot. Less than an hour later, it was official: Tambor won his second straight Emmy for playing a transgender woman.
