Julia Louis-Dreyfus: ‘Veep’ Has Turned Into A ‘Sobering Documentary’

If Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Emmy win had a familiar ring, it was because the 55-year-old actress made history Sunday night.

Sunday’s victory marked the fifth consecutive win for Julia, but her sixth overall win for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, edging out Candice Bergen (Murphy Brown) and Mary Tyler Moore (The Mary Tyler Moore Show) for most wins in the category.

“The more I learned about the real Marcia Clark. the more I had to recognize that I along with the rest of the world had been superficial and careless in my judgment”, said Paulson, accepting her first Emmy.

Though she couldn’t resist cracking a joke, Louis-Dreyfus had a moment of honest emotion at the end of her speech, dedicating her latest win to her late father.

Transparent“, the comedy series about a Jewish family whose father comes out as transgender won for both for its director Jill Soloway and lead actor Jeffrey Tambor.

The actress thanked a bevy of people who worked on the show and then offered an apology to the “best crew on television” whom she said work an “unforgiveable” amount of hours. HBO’s “Last Week Tonight With John Oliver” won the Emmy for outstanding variety talk series.
