Julia Roberts walks barefoot at Cannes red carpet

From Julia Robert’s bare foot act, to Clooney’s wife’s debut on the red carpet, the star-studded affair had much drama that unfolded amid fanfare.

At the premiere of Jodie Foster’s “Money Monster” on Thursday, Roberts went shoeless to climb the steps that conclude Cannes’ iconic carpet.

Several women, including producer Valeria Richter, complained previous year that they were stopped for not wearing heels, prompting festival director Thierry Fremaux to tell news agency AFP: “We apologise”.

Even powerful women in pop culture, from “Veep” to “House of Cards”, are always wearing high heels, no matter how uncomfortable or unrealistic the style choice is, as The Huffington Post pointed out. She said, “Everyone should wear flats, to be honest, at the best of times”.

Julia Roberts glides up the stairs at the red carpet sans shoes, breaking yet another fashion convention. “You kind of think that there’s these new waves of equality”.

Kristen Stewart echoed the criticism again this year.

“She did arrive on the red carpet wearing heels, but she appears to have removed them as she made her way into the premiere”, adds Vanity Fair. You can not come in.’ Then (I’m going to say), ‘Neither is my friend.

For many women, no one has required them to wear heels to work or elsewhere.
