Julie’n Davenport Named to STATS FCS Preseason All-America First Team

Davenport was named a Second Team STATS FCS All-American following last season. The Brookfield, Wisconsin, native led the offensive line unit which paved the way for Coprich, the First-Team All-American and MVFC Offensive Player of the Year who led the MVFC in rushing yards (1,967), touchdowns (23), yards per game (151.3), all-purpose yards per game (166.4) and scoring (11.2).

The Jackrabbits, who finished the 2015 season with an 8-4 overall record and made their fourth consecutive appearance in the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs, will report to fall camp Wednesday, with their first practice scheduled for Thursday afternoon.

The preseason accolades continue to pour in for the University of Richmond football program, which will enter the 2016 season as the CAA Preseason favorites and the third-ranked team in the country.

Jones and Carter were both third team selections.

In addition, three James Madison players were honored by STATS. He led the Big South with 18 tackles for loss and tied for second with 7.5 sacks in 2015. The shifty running back had a breakout year in 2015 as a runner, receiver and kickoff returner.

Kidder, a defensive tackle his first three season in maroon before transitioning to end this spring, is on the second team.

Avaloy was a Second Team All-MVFC selection at left guard and also started all 13 games for the Redbirds just to the left of Spelman.

Davenport earned the team’s Stuart M. Smith Award as its top newcomer in 2013, the Most Improved Offensive Player Award at the conclusion of 2015 spring practice, and he took home the John Campana Award as the team’s outstanding offensive lineman a year ago.

The Griz open play at home on September 3 against Saint Francis, who feature two second team players in senior kicker Lance Geesey and senior kick returner Lorenzo Jerome.

Among FCS conferences, the Missouri Valley had the most All-America selections with 16.

They were followed by the Big Sky with nine, Ohio Valley with eight, Southland with seven, Big South and Patriot League with six each, Mid-Eastern Athletic with five, Ivy League, Northeast and Southwestern Athletic with four each, and Pioneer League with three.
