July 20, 2016 in Weather: Excessive Heat Warning continues
The weather service says temperatures will feel about 10 degrees hotter than thermometers read due to the high humidity. The eat index values will reach 100 degrees by late morning each day. The Paris area isn’t alone. We won’t find much relief overnight, either, with the heat index staying in the low 80s.

June, however, ranked among the hottest ever in Lincoln, with the average temperature ranking as the third-warmest June ever, trailing only the Dust Bowl years of 1933 and 1934.
Because of this, area residents are encouraged to plan ahead and to have a cool place to shelter from the heat. Heat stroke is an emergency, call 911.
Meteorologists are warning, however, that the high temperatures and low humidity, combined with low rain levels this year, carry a higher potential for fire danger on Thursday.
The President’s warning falls in line with advice from the NWS for dealing with heat: Stay indoors, drink lots of water, find local cooling centers if you don’t have access, and don’t leave children, the elderly, pets, or anyone else with limited mobility alone in a auto. USE CAUTION if expecting to spend any time outdoors this weekend! Wear light and loose clothing when possible. Our police department will be extremely vigilant for children and pets being left in vehicles and strictly enforce the laws in these cases. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration urged employers to protect laborers doing construction, road and agricultural work.
Duration of heat exposure is an important factor in heat-related illnesses, and the old, the very young and the sick are especially vulnerable. Closely monitor people who depend on you for their care.
