Juneau Mayor Greg Fisk found dead at Alaska home

Greg Fisk, the 70-year-old man who was just elected mayor of Juneau, Alaska last month was found dead in his home on Monday after police received a 911 call at 3:34 p.m. local time.

Police said a man, who they did not identify, made an emergency call on Monday afternoon to report a deceased person inside a residence. However, the circumstances surrounding the death were not immediately known.

An investigation into what police described as an “unattended death” is underway. “Those rumors are speculation”, police said in a statement Monday night.

Police said an autopsy has been authorized by The Medical Examiner’s Office has authorized.

The governor of Alaska, Bill Walker, paid tribute to Fisk on Twitter, writing: ‘My thoughts and prayers are with the family of Mayor Greg Fisk. Results are expected within several days. “He was a great person and he will be missed”, said Mary Becker, an Assembly member and the city’s deputy mayor.

Fisk, a former fisheries specialist for the state Commerce Department, was a longtime civic activist, having served on numerous Juneau boards and commissions over the past decade.
