“Jungle Book” Easily Stays #1 At Box Office; “Huntsman: Winter’s War” Disappoints
Disney’s Zootopia remained a powerhouse, coming in No. 4 with $6.6 million for a domestic total of $316.4 million.

Barbershop: The Next Cut spent its sophomore weekend in third place, earning $10.8 million. The spectacular and somewhat unexpected hold of The Jungle Book overshadowed the debut of The Huntsman: Winters War, which, despite its high-wattage cast of Chris Hemsworth, Charlize Theron, Emily Blunt and Jessica Chastain, had a somewhat lackluster $20.1 million bow.
For the second straight weekend, The Jungle Book romped to victory: $60.8 million gave the film $191 million domestic in just 10 days.
Disney also booked April 6, 2018, August 3, 2018, and Christmas (a Tuesday) 2018 for more live-action films.
Jon Favreau’s re-imagination of Mowgli’s epic tale, “The Jungle Book” has secured the top spot on the weekend box office list. When you take into consideration that this is a franchise picture with a $115 Million production budget, Universal can’t be too happy, especially when you compare this to Snow White & The Huntsman’s opening weekend total of $56.2 Million.
Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst with ComScore, noted that the new Huntsman had been hit by tough reviews while the original benefited from Stewart’s participation while she was starring in the Twilight franchise. I estimated the film to open at around $18-24 Million and it ended up doing $20 Million.

Melissa McCarthy’s comedy “The Boss” placed fifth with $6.2 million. The action comedy (and Mexico-U.S. production) made an estimated $1.4 million in limited release, though whether it quickly fades or gains traction will be seen. Bleecker Street saw less impressive results for Amazon’s Elvis and Nixon with US$470,000 at 381 locations.
