If you have an appointment with us on the day of a strike, and have not been contacted by us to say it has been postponed, please attend your appointment as normal.

The industrial action is part of a national movement after the British Medical Association (BMA) failed to reach an agreement with NHS employers.

The union’s general secretary Dave Prentis said: “An NHS where the same high quality care is provided, regardless of the time of day or the day of the week, will not come cheap”.

Has your clinic or appointment had to be cancelled?

Dr Davies added: “The reason we feel the need to strike is to protect our patients”.

Gagan Bhatnagar – a junior doctor in Oxford, has arranged a consultant to see the most urgent patients on his cancer list.

A “meet the doctors” event with junior doctors will be held in Middlesbrough town centre on Tuesday, to spread the word and provide a chance for the public to ask questions and get some answers.

At this point in time, elective operations planned in for the dates suggested for industrial action will be taking place as planned.

They expected to phone about 50 patients before the weekend who are scheduled to have a day case or inpatient procedure and will call them again on Monday (12th) or early Tuesday (13th) to confirm whether their appointment will proceed or not.

Following negotiations, very few junior doctors will now lose money* but there are still issues over limits on working hours and what happens when “pay protection’ – the government in effect topping up wages – ends in 2019”.

Patients whose appointments and operations have been cancelled should have been contacted already, but if you’re unsure then it is best to check with your hospital.

They can now be paid extra for working between 7pm-7am during the week, and can be paid extra for working all of the weekend.

“The Government is threatening to impose contracts in which junior doctors have no confidence and which represents the first step in a wholesale attack on all NHS staff at night and over weekends”.

Some 98 per cent of junior doctors who voted in the BMA ballot were in favour of strikes, with two per cent against.

Junior doctors are set to provide emergency care only for 24 hours from 8am on Tuesday.

This dispute is in relation to the Government’s proposal to introduce new terms and conditions of employment for junior doctors.
