Junior doctors to hold first strike
They expected to phone about 50 patients before the weekend who are scheduled to have a day case or inpatient procedure and will call them again on Monday (12th) or early Tuesday (13th) to confirm whether their appointment will proceed or not.

The stoppage went ahead despite a last-minute plea from Prime Minister David Cameron, after talks between the BMA and the Government, through arbitration service ACAS failed to reach an agreement, after a planned strike was suspended previous year.
He warned Tuesday’s strike will cause “real difficulties for patients and potentially worse”.
JUNIOR doctors in Dudley who are part of the British Medical Association are set to take industrial action tomorrow (January 12). Masood said support for the strike among the doctors was overwhelming.
But doctors say that amounts to a pay cut and also object to the government removing safeguards to punish hospitals that overwork doctors.
“We estimate that there will be 43 junior doctors striking in total across our three sites”.
2- What will happen if I am rushed to hospital with an emergency condition?
“We have been working with hospitals and other NHS providers across the country to ensure we can continue to protect the safety of our patients and provide the urgent services they need”.
Junior doctors will take action for 24 hours from 8am on January 12.
When are the strikes happening?
NHS England said hospitals would be under “additional pressure” as thousands of junior doctors go on strike in the dispute over pay and a new contract.
“In the event that the strike is called off we aim to reinstate cancelled appointments so if you are able to get to the hospital, please attend at your original appointment time”.
She said: “The NHS is a beloved institution”.
“We would ask patients to consider other options and only use Accident and Emergency if absolutely necessary”.
Mr Prentis added: “NHS staff fear that the dispute with junior doctors could be the dry run for a much bigger confrontation”.
Despite the name junior doctors often have a lot of experience and are not just fresh out of medical school.
They can now be paid extra for working between 7pm-7am during the week, and can be paid extra for working all of the weekend. “There’s nothing to stop the trust making us work 100-hour weeks, and if we are not safe to function after five days working we certainly wouldn’t be under the new contracts”.
Why are the junior doctors going on strike?
Here, we explain when the strike begins and ends, why doctors are taking industrial action for the first time since the 1970s and what it will mean for patients.
