Jurassic World Congratulates Star Wars On Setting New Box Office Record
With a lot of cash in the bank, and the response to the film generally very positive, all concerned with Star Wars: The Force Awakens can finally breathe out a little. The problem is that for as much as we received, there remain some glaring omissions from the film in terms of context, subtext, action sequences and character arcs.

The film also set a new IMAX worldwide opening weekend record – grossing USD$48 million worldwide on 677 screens (excluding China), surpassing the Company’s previous best weekend set by Jurassic World with USD$44.1 million globally (which included China). The previous worldwide box-office record holder in IMAX – without China – was Avengers: Age of Ultron, which earned USD$25.2 million during its opening weekend globally. If there were perhaps concerns that a longer runtime would affect the pacing of the film, I’d argue that J.J. Abrams is good enough at his job to bury those concerns.
According to The Daily Mail, Harrison Ford is likely to be given a paycheck of more than $34m, or GBP23m for reprising his role as Han Solo in the new star wars movie.
Disney said in a statement: “With final numbers now in, Star Wars: The Force Awakens rose above estimates to post an all-time industry-high 248 million dollars (£166 million) domestically, plus 281 million dollars (£188 million) internationally for an all-time record global debut of 529 million dollars since opening December 16”.
“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2”, previously held both records at $43.5 million for an opening night and $91 million for a first day.
At the world premiere of the “The Force Awakens” in Hollywood last Monday, Marshall interrupted a live-stream interview with George Lucas to jokingly ask the director, “You’re not going to beat my movie, are you?”

Well, as it turns out, one of the new main cast was originally set to die in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
