‘Jurassic World’ passes ‘Avengers’ for biggest opening ever

After “Tomorrowland” flopped over Memorial Day, there was some gum-flapping among box office analysts about whether Universal erred in not putting “Jurassic World” over the four-day holiday.

MILWAUKEE – “Jurassic World” is on track to make more than $180 million at the domestic box office through Sunday, which would make it one of Hollywood’s biggest opening weekends ever.

“Dinosaurs are fascinating to everyone”, said Nick Carpou, president of domestic distribution at Universal. When a film far exceeds estimates, as Jurassic World has done, it underscores why the largest media companies continue to invest millions into making movies that can play as well domestically as they might in countries around the world. “Pitch flawless 2” rounded out the top five with a $6 million weekend, bringing its domestic haul to $170.7 million.

Despite being all but extinct for 14 years, the Jurassic Park franchise roared back to life with an astounding $511.8-million (U.S.) at the worldwide box office this past weekend, the highest global premiere in history.

Overall, “Jurassic World” is set up to create the same type of attachment and following of fans in younger generations as it did for those who grew up with the original films. Let’s just hope that the films don’t decline in quality as they did with the original Jurassic Park trilogy.

Reviews were kept under embargo until right before the film’s release. The audience breakdown for the film skewed towards male moviegoers (52 percent) and towards the audiences over 25 (61 percent). He gets off a few one-liners here and there, but, for the most part, he is the tough but smart Raptor trainer (you read that right) who sees danger coming a mile away, and Pratt totally owns it. I really think this guy has a shot at becoming the next Harrison Ford down the road if he keeps going like he has been. “There’s no better salve for a struggling box office than a movie that opens with a 2 at the front”.

Trevorrow has already said he will not be returning to direct any “Jurassic World” sequel, but he does not need to.

The reboot of Steven Spielberg’sJurassic Park” franchise stunned Hollywood as it surpassed even the most generous projections.

Jurassic World is in cinemas now.

Pratt has signed on for two more dinosaur films.

The film has raked in $100.8 million since it opened in the China last Wednesday.

On one hand, Wong’s presence is a welcome bit of diversity in a film where both the lead heroes are white. Entourage plummeted to sixth place, only bringing in $4.3 million in its second weekend.
