Jurgen Klopp defends Liverpool team selection after West Brom draw

Jordon Ibe bagged a point for the visitors in a 1-1 draw at West Brom ahead of Wednesday’s Europa League final with Sevilla.

The German has guided the club to two finals since taking over from Brendan Rodgers in mid-October but has come up short in the Barclays Premier League for a number of reasons.

The two clubs will now face-off in the final in Basel on Wednesday night and Liverpool arrived in Switzerland earlier this evening to begin their pre-match preparations. I know I’m going to have to keep working harder and harder each day to remain in contention at this great club.

If we match Sevilla physically and play to the best of our ability then we’ve got more than enough to win it.

“I decided what the strongest side was”, he said, as Liverpool finished eighth in the Barclays Premier League.

“In the end it’s not my decision, I have to take what I get”.

It’s interesting to see that they haven’t won an away game in La Liga all season though which is pretty awesome but in Europe they’ve done okay in away games.

Sevilla have endured a disappointing domestic campaign, finishing seventh in La Liga and failing to win a single away game, the only team in Europe’s top five leagues to do so.

Klopp is a bit of a magnet anyway so if you added the prospect of Champions League football to that, Liverpool could be a really attractive destination to play next year.

“So that shows how big the competition was this year”.

“It’s an outstanding opportunity for us”.

“It would be the best in the sense that it’s what everyone here wants; it’s certainly what I want, to win trophies and be successful”.

“We could have more points”.

Divock Origi has confirmed he remains on course for a potential Liverpool return in next week’s Europa League final.

– Sevilla have won three of their eight European games against English opposition (D2 L3), including a 4-0 win over Middlesbrough in the 2006 UEFA Cup final. It gives you a lot more confidence as a player and as a team, you gain a lot more trust in each other and a lot more trust in the manager. With Danny Ings and Christian Benteke both back, and possibly Divock Origi, all three surely can not be selected for the bench.

Sevilla also failed to qualify for the Europa League next season but there is a general feeling that Liverpool deserve it more after those awesome comebacks against Dortmund in the quarter-final and Villarreal in the semi’s.
