Jurgen Klopp enjoys ‘cool’ Liverpool debut, but concedes front line injury

We played at Everton and the players were over-excited and motivated.

Klopp’s hyperactive touchline antics and multitude of intense facial expressions have been as much the focus of attention as his coaching prowess since he became Liverpool boss. Come on. It is OK for Daniel (to miss Tottenham).

Klopp had little option but to play Origi after Danny Ings was ruled out with a long-term injury this week, while summer signings Christian Benteke and Roberto Firmino were not ready to return from injuries and Daniel Sturridge had a knee problem.

Pochettino said: “We only conceded one clear chance when we had ten men on the pitch and we had four good chances in the first half”.

While it will take time for players to reach their peak fitness to play under the demanding pressing routine Klopp asks for, once they reach it, we will see even more relentless pressing and teams will come to hate playing against Liverpool FC.

“I know Liverpool did not shoot the most goals this season but football can be enjoyable and spectacular without goals”. We need (Simon) Mignolet, he is warm I would say, but we did well.

“Philippe Coutinho? Do you not think he can play better football than today?”

It might not replace You’ll Never Walk Alone on the terraces of Anfield but we challenge you to watch it once and not be humming it for the rest of the day.

“I trust this player 100 percent. We were in the battle to sign him”.

Klopp admitted it was not ideal preparation to have just one fit striker in Divock Origi but he will continue to work on improving the team with the players he does have at his disposal.

“That is not the best situation but I like Divock and young [Jerome] Sinclair was on the bench and close to coming on”. They were also the first team to outrun Tottenham, the most effective pressing team in the division.

Liverpool supporters are no fools and they will appreciate that it will take time for Klopp to get his ideas across to the players, but I like what I see from him early on. We didn’t use our skills. We were too hectic, maybe, I’m not sure! If he is not then I don’t think about it because if the medics and physiotherapists tell me it is not possible, then it is not possible.
