“The Dutch worldwide midfielder joined the Magpies in July 2015 from PSV Eindhoven and made 40 appearances, scoring 11 goals, during his time on Tyneside”.
In his debut season, he scored 11 goals for the Magpies and created five more for his teammates in the Premier League.
“Gini leaves with our very best wishes for his future career”.
The Rotterdam-born player, who has represented the Netherlands national team 30 times, has been handed the number five shirt.
Asked about the prospect of working with Klopp, he added: “A great man – from the outside – because I don’t know how he works yet and I have to work with him”.
A statement on Liverpool’s official website read, “Liverpool Football Club have today completed the signing of Netherlands global Georginio Wijnaldum from Newcastle United”. That’s one of the things I really like about him.
“And when I went to England with Newcastle they gave me a choice of a few numbers and the No.5 was free, so I thought I began with that number and it’s a new start in a new country – I will play as a No.5 again and see how it works”.
“I’m really excited because Liverpool is a big club with a great history and it’s always a dream to play for as big a club as Liverpool”, declared the Reds latest signing.
The Belgium worldwide took part in his first training sessions here on Saturday following an extended summer break after Euro 2016 but he has returned to a different landscape, with Liverpool having signed Karius from Mainz for £5million.
“I’ve known him as a player since he was 16 or 17 when I first watched him play for Rotterdam”.
