“That’s a two-word answer!”

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp claims fatigue had a part to play in Sunday’s drubbing by Mainz.

The striker will now miss Liverpool’s final pre-season game at Mainz this afternoon and the Express claim that the 26-year-old will nearly certainly be ruled out of the Merseysiders trip to the Emirates next Sunday.

Before the match, it was announced that Daniel Sturridge, Liverpool’s gifted but made-of-glass striker, was once again sidelined because of a hip injury.

Klopp added: “I’m happy with the squad but if something on the injury side happens then we need to react – that’s how it is”.

“We still have to go on. But if we put in performances like [the one against Barcelona] this season then we can do really well – and push for a Premier League title”.

“We have to remember, and it is the most important thing, that it is pre-season and not an official game”. For the rest of us, it’s a time to watch dumb friendly games and marvel at their often baffling scorelines. James Milner is awaiting the results of a heel scan having been injured in the first half, while Dejan Lovren was limping after the game.

“I have no idea how good Barca can finally be, but I’m pretty sure better than today”. “Before the game, we didn’t think we were on the level of Barcelona and after the game, we don’t think we are higher than them”.

But after Klopp personally contacted him to take a role as fitness coach at Anfield this summer, Kornmayer couldn’t say no. It is about organisation, it is about formation, it is about winning balls. “But we always expect of ourselves that we have to do better and we should have done better”.
