Jurgen Klopp: Liverpool missed opportunity to secure second league win of season

Liverpool vice-captain James Milner converted from the penalty spot to put the Reds 1-0 up before England left-back Danny Rose levelled with 18 minutes remaining at White Hart Lane.

Klopp urged on in typically animated fashion and it was only a lack of a killer touch from his side that prevented another victory.

The Reds drew 1-1 with Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

“Last year, of course I was desperate for Tottenham to win the league but it was for him, not because I’m a Tottenham fan. “(Back then) Simon made a really good game and he saved our life.

Tottenham goalkeeper Michel Vorm had earlier saved brilliantly from Coutinho, and Joel Matip had glanced a header off the bar, as Liverpool tried to make the most of their superiority. It was a little bit of a counter-pressing festival that first game, today was more about football. When we play like this, we could have won the game. Whatever happens, we are still Europe.

Klopp was pleased with how many chances Liverpool created, even if they lacked efficiency in taking them.

“I think it’s a good signal that he didn’t score yet”, said the Argentine.

The Premier League club, who will play their Champions League home games at Wembley this season, have been drawn against CSKA Moscow, Bayer Leverkusen, and Monaco in Group E.

This Liverpool team certainly seems to find it easier when facing the division’s bigger sides, who are less likely to defend deep and nullify their press by hitting long balls forward.

“We had a good cushion at halftime”, Wenger added.

“Our first real mistake and they score. We showed again that we can be really good and that’s what we have to show in each game and then everything will be good”. That’s all that we take for the analysis when we meet again in 10 days.

Last season, both of the matches that these two played ended in draws, but can we expect the same result this time around, too? “What can I say?”

– Danny Rose has scored six of his eight Premier League goals at White Hart Lane, including each of the last five. I think we are very different, but I don’t know. His team started very impressively on that occasion, overwhelming Tottenham Hotspur with their energy and pinning the hosts back inside their own half for much of the first period, before fizzling out and ultimately being forced to settle for a point. “Now this is our base, and we have to build on it”.
