Sunday’s 1-1 draw at home to Southampton means that the German coach is still without a win from his three games in charge since replacing Brendan Rodgers at Anfield.

According to a report by the Daily Telegraph, Sturridge hasn’t trained since bruising his knee and was once more a conspicuous absentee from training on Monday as the Reds started preparations for this week’s Capital One Cup tie against Bournemouth.

Jurgen Klopp has ruled out a swift return to the Liverpool line-up for Daniel Sturridge – but insisted his fragile striker’s latest problem will not require surgery.

Chelsea have suffered a desperately poor start to their Premier League title defence, and it got worse on Saturday as they lost 2-1 at West Ham United. Klopp is near to having his full squad available and in case he fails to produce the result, he will be handed a heft transfer kitty for more reinforcements. Forward Callum Wilson went down against Stoke City, after suffering a severe ligament injury that will keep him out for at least six months. We can work with this performance of the team.

“I saw things that were better, a few that were not so good; a few of these things were because we played on Thursday but it is like it is”.

“But not because this is not the most important cup in the world for me”.

“I know about his history with injuries of course but I have no experience with these things with him especially”. They want to win and beat us. I really want to win and that is the reason why we change. “Hopefully we don’t have to wait too long (for the next one)”. “Sometimes we write stories like this but today it didn’t happen”, he said.

He added: “We have to change the team a little bit now but at this moment I don’t know how many”.

At half-time former Liverpool defender-turned-television pundit Jamie Carragher summed up how much work Klopp still has to do when he said: “He has come in wanting to play heavy metal football but for two-and-a-half games now it’s been a church choir”.

One young player a lot at Anfield are particularly excited about is Cameron Brannagan, as is evident by the fact the midfielder agreed a new long-term contract with the club earlier this week, per Kelly.

James Milner is suspended for the game, after picking up a booking in the free-kick which led to Southampton’s goal on Sunday.

The hosts got another fine chance minutes later when Alberto Moreno played a clever one-two with Emre Can before unleashing a powerful shot toward the far post, but his attempt went wide for a goal kick.
