Jurgen Klopp on Daniel Sturridge’s latest injury and the title race

Sturridge might consider himself to be unlucky or fragile but this certainly isn’t the way he would have liked to start his career under Jurgen Klopp.

Daniel Sturridge’s latest injury is not a major concern, according to Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

Benteke has endured an injury-hit spell at Liverpool since joining in the summer from Aston Villa for £32.5million, and the Belgian scored his fifth goal in 12 games in the 2-1 Europa League against Bordeaux in midweek.

Benteke’s brilliance in front of goal would have been welcomed by Klopp, especially as Daniel Sturridge’s anticipated presence on the bench did not materialise after the striker was sent for a scan on his foot after complaining of discomfort in training.

But the England worldwide has missed all nine of the German’s matches in charge of Liverpool, having been absent for more than a month with a bruised knee.

“Now we can say (his latest issue) is not that serious but it is not possible to go on as before so we have to react to every situation – which is normal for injuries”.

“At the moment you think about what can you do, but I waited too long and that can happen”, he said.

While Sturridge’s fitness for the Swansea game remains doubtful, Klopp said he is also unsure if fellow forward Christian Benteke will be ready to feature.

But Monk, who guided the club to their best ever Premier League finish of eighth place last season, insists he retains the backing of club chairman Huw Jenkins and has been charged with leading an upturn in fortunes. He’s always at the door, saying: ‘Give me 10 minutes, give me five minutes.’ I like this, but it’s not always the best thing to do.

“I like this but it’s not always the best thing to do”. He has a big step ahead of him now.

“He needs to be fit, really fit, not 50 percent”.

There has been plenty of speculation surrounding the playing future of Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet – and a freakish brain snap on Friday morning is not going to help the case for him remaining the Reds’ number one. He has played only three games [this season], against Aston Villa that I saw with two goals, and another two.

He said: “We have to accept the situation”.
