Jurgen Klopp unable to explain Liverpool’s draw at Sunderland

Jurgen Klopp, the manager who has brightened the Premier League with his quick wit and off-beat remarks, displayed his dark side after Liverpool dropped two precious points at Sunderland.

The fact Manchester United beat West Ham at the Olympic Stadium only added salt to the wounds for Liverpool fans, especially Jamie Carragher.

Liverpool defender Ragnar Klavan clumsily upended midfielder Didier Ndong as he burst into the penalty area and Defoe slammed the resulting penalty into the bottom corner.

Vito Mannone says Sunderland will battle and stay up – just like they do every season.

Sadio Mane looked to have given the Reds victory with a 72nd minute goal but again Defoe was their to break hearts, slotting home his second penalty of the afternoon with just 6 minutes remaining. Instead, I have to chalk this up to one of those one off’s that you run in to throughout the course of the season.

Sunderland’s form has improved in recent months after a desperate start where they failed to win their opening ten league games. “I saw it in the game and the fourth official saw it”.

“I will make a line-up when the medical department gives me the opportunity to”, Klopp said about his team’s match fitness status given the lack of the rest, during his prematch press opportunities. “I think if you talk about decisions, we are the champions of bad decisions”, Mourinho said.

The Reds have no suspensions to contend with, but Dejan Lovren is one yellow card away from a ban.

City manager Pep Guardiola turned to his bench at half-time, sending on Sergio Aguero and David Silva, and within 17 minutes of kick-off in the second half City were 2-0 up.

The point sees Liverpool cut Chelsea’s lead to five points at the top but the Blues have a chance of extending it to 8 points with a win at Tottenham. Ben Mee halved the deficit 20 minutes from time and there were a few late jitters but City held on. “I thought we did quite well, matching Liverpool’s energy for long periods of the game and we deserved a draw”, said the Scot.

And if players like Stewart are not going to get a game against relegation contenders Sunderland, who lost 4-1 to Burnley 48 hours ago, and with only 44 hours between Liverpool’s games, then are they ever going to get a game?!
