Jurgen Klopp urges Liverpool to continue good run after win against Chelsea

Dejan Lovren opened the scoring with his maiden league goal for Liverpool before Jordan Henderson scored his first goal since January with a superb long-range strike and, although Diego Costa scored his fifth goal of the season to get Chelsea back into the contest, Luiz’s second debut ended in defeat.

That’s exactly what Jordan Henderson did tonight at Stamford Bridge.

Speaking to the media after the match, Conte said, as quoted by The Guardian, “We must not forget last season”.

“When you give away two goals in this way, I think it’s very hard because against Liverpool you play with a great team”. Jurgen Klopp’s side are coming off a dominating performance against Leicester and will look to steal valuable points on the road.

Chelsea struggled to get Diego Costa into the game in the opening exchanges with Liverpool clearly the more energetic side, and Thibaut Courtois nearly spilled an early shot between his legs and into the net before recovering quickly.

On Juergen Klopp’s watch, Liverpool has been strong against Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham, and the Manchester clubs, remaining unbeaten in six away games against them, and losing only once in 11 matches.

“The season is not over, we have to play football – we know we can play football and we are convinced about our quality”. We just have to keep it up.

Chelsea created very little in the opening half an hour and found themselves further adrift as Gary Cahill’s poor clearance fell to the feet of Henderson and the Liverpool skipper thrashed home from around 30 yards. We need this player there in the centre who we can play with and if there’s a ball behind the line sometimes, so that we can go there and can push up in the last line.

“It’s not important [that] this defeat is my first defeat”, he said.

David Luiz will start for Chelsea against Liverpool this evening – his first appearance since being re-signed by the Blues from Paris St-Germain.

“You must pay attention… in every second”.

“I don’t know this”, the 47-year-old added.

Chelsea slumped to a disappointing 10th-place finish last season and Conte warned his players they risk meeting a similar fate this term if they do not sharpen up. Because this is not the first time this has happened.

“These are tough games and I think that you must pay attention in every moment, in every single minute of the game, every second, because the details make the difference”.
