Jury selection began this week in the federal trial of two former top aides to New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, who are said to have orchestrated the traffic jam at the George Washington Bridge in 2013 known as “Bridgegate”.

Christie “flat-out lied” when he claimed that none of his senior staff were involved in the lane closures, according to Christina Genovese Renna, who worked in Christie’s Intergovernmental Affairs Office.

The case is U.S. v. Baroni, 15-cr-00193, U.S. District Court, District of New Jersey (Newark). Defendants have the right to change their mind about testifying.

Attorneys for Bridget Kelly and Bill Baroni said Monday their clients will take the stand in their defense.

Gov. Chris Christie should be prosecuted for attempting to hide the crimes that co-conspirators Bridget Kelly, David Wildstein and Bill Baroni committed to serve Christie’s supersized political ambitions. Four alternates also will be chosen.

Baroni’s lawyers accused the government of shifting positions ahead of the trial. They filled out questionnaires last week and on Tuesday attorneys will use their responses to gauge whether they can be impartial.
